A local horse trainer advised that I use magnets on my 25 yr. old mare's rather large bone spur. It is 2"x2" and sticks out about an inch and is located above the coronary band on the inside of her hind leg. Can you recommend a type of magnet and a way of attaching it?
She is very lame at the trot but seems comfortable walking around. She is on 1000 mgs of MSM and 5000 mgs of glucosamine daily, which help a lot. Bute did not work at all in any dosage and I don't like using it anyway. She is in a flat, soft pasture with another older mare. The vet suggested Adequan injections, but I can't afford them. Is there anything else I can do for her?

Dear Susan We have been quite successful in completely dissolving bone
spurs with homeopathy. It is one area that homeopathy shines. The remedy
is called Calc Fluor. and it can be purchased at a health food store.
They come in milk sugar tablets/pellet form. Dissolve one pellet in water
and add that to her water bucket daily. I suggest you take a fairly accurate
measurement or photograph so you can monitor the progress. It should take
about 3 months or so for it to reduce significantly. Leave her on longer
if necessary to dissolve it completely. It may then may need to be reassessed.
Some horses need a dose per month for a while to maintain, some never
need it again. It is important not to re-injure the area during treatment.
You should notice a difference within a couple weeks of treatment.
I suggest a 6c potency for this. You might want to also consider taking some before and after pictures, because not many may believe you!
