Question
From: Karen

This is a question that will go along with the question already posted on helping the 25-year-old-mare with a bone spur. I have a 14-year-old quarter horse gelding that had an injury to his knee long before he came into my life. He had enormous fluid pockets, which I have gotten rid of with the use of yucca and devil's claw. He gets 10,000 mg of glucosamine, and unless he is ridden hard or twists his knee, never shows signs of lameness, except with a flexion test. I have had him on chondroitin sulfate for a year, and it did not seem to help him. His best combination is with the garlic, yucca, glucosamine and devil's claw.

The x-rays I had taken showed arthritic changes, and bone spurs, the vet thought it was probably a few kicks that were never left to heal. The girl I bought him from said it was a cactus needle, and argued with the vet that he didn't have arthritis.

Anyway, do you think that this treatment will work for an old injury that has these arthritic changes as well? This horse is worth his weight in gold to me, and I will do anything for him. I have even considered saving the money for a $15,000+ surgery to extend his life. For all he has given to me, he deserves a long, happy pain free life.

If this treatment is suggested, do I really only give one tablet of a 6x? The bottle recommends 3-5 tablets a day for a 150lb human.

Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate this!

Sincerely,
Karen Scott

Answer
Dear Karen, Yes this gelding will benefit greatly from Calc Fluor. I also suggest a 6c not a 6x for this condition and one pellet can be dissolved in a cup of water and that added to his water bucket daily. It will take a few months before you may notice a real physical difference. Calc Fluor is known for dissolving bone spurs and strengthening tendons and ligaments and restoring their elasticity. Provided the knee is not reinjured, Calc Fluor will make a noticeable difference. I suggest you take a tape measure and measure the knee now so you can monitor the progress. This remedy historically has reduced knees the size of footballs, back to normal size in cases where the knee has been "blown", rendering them sound. It just takes time. You may also keep him on the garlic, yucca, devils claw and glucosimine if you wish but if you have not noticed the condroitin doing anything, then I would quit using it. You can, for a few dollars, try this remedy over the next few months and see what happens and in the mean time still save your money. I can tell you, you will probably find better things to do with what you have saved than spending it on unnecessary surgery.
